First shoot after lockdown
With new government guidelines being announced and people being allowed to venture outside again, I was very keen to pick up my camera and get creative. Having not shot for several weeks my ideas book had filled many new pages for future work. I contacted Emma who lives quite local to me and discussed the idea of shooting together and how we both felt about the social distancing issues as we both wanted to stay safe and keep within the guidelines. We decided it was possible and spoke about ideas for what we might achieve and a location and date was put in the diary, we also sourced a few simple props to help with the storylines. With Britain having just experienced several weeks of fabulous weather I was looking forward to getting out in it on the shoot but as with many plans we all make the weather played it’s hand and forecast rain and wind on the date in the diary, just typical England.
The morning of the shoot arrived and so did the rainy weather as forecast but there was a break in the clouds around lunchtime where it might be ok so we took the chance and arrived at a local park. The basic idea behind the images was based around the camera being a passing glance from another pair of eye’s but had to incorporate the usual Gavin Prest stamp. Although you might know a location well you always have to bank on the unexpected and as per usual someone parked a car and a white van in totally the wrong place compromising a few images. Emma did a great job with the storylines and we shot for around an hour until the clouds came back and it started to rain again.
Most of the images were shot with the same camera lens combination – a Sony A7R4 body and a Sigma 105mm F1.4 art lens. This I will admit is one of my favourite lenses giving great separation from backgrounds when needed and is beautifully sharp. I will write a blog about this lens at a future time soon. The images were then processed in Adobe Lightroom using my usual editing techniques and presets.
